My Prairie Journey

I come from a long line of prairie dwellers. Generations of my ancestors lived their lives with  long roots grounded in the grasslands called home.  Leaving Russia in the 1800's, my Mennonite people left the grasslands of what is now the Ukraine and landed on the plains of North America, putting down roots in Saskatchewan and Manitoba.  It is that connection that is pulling me to this journey through the prairies.  This painting journey has only just begun.

This was a commissioned work and representative of a predominant icon of the Alberta prairies where I spent most of my adult life. Commissioned by a young man close to my heart, it speaks to the hardiness and resilience of spirit so evident in the prairie dwellers around our world.
